Story[edit]

Alex was born in South America, but quickly moved up to the southern part of North America for unknown reasons.[1] This is why he attended Laire instead of Quianto. His dad was not a prominent figure in his life, and he grew up with his mom and little brother Brian.

Alex had a very early presenting chondria, which led to him being scouted by the Seer at a mere 6 years old.[2] Due to his chondria ability being exceptionally rare, Alex was subject to many unethical tests and experiments while at Laire Institute. The majority of these tests involved a "Crown", a device mounted around Alex's head, purpose of which is to increase the strength of his puppeteering skills.[3] These tests were kept secret from everyone else, the only person knowing being Phillip, as they were close friends at the time.

Alex is often held at the title of the "King" because of his powerful ability to control minds. In Lokki's prophecy, his title is also "The King". The details of his future are currently unknown.

Personality[edit]

Alex is a confident outgoing person, being fairly excitable and energetic. He can also be emotional, prone to outbursts of anger or excitement. He has a high ego and often looks down on others, calling people by rude nicknames (eg. Piranha, Popsicle), resembling a bully. However, he is shown to have high empathy and cares for others deeply, even if he does not display it directly.[2] Though he is still snarky and very judgmental, his "bully" traits have died down throughout the story, and he has grown to be more compassionate.

He doesn't trust adults easily due to his past experiences with the scientists of Laire, and has a general dislike of authority as well. He also doesn't like being schooled, and for the most part doesn't pay attention in class.[4] Despite this, he is a fast learner when he actively tries, as shown by his ability to pick up Meerkle quickly.

Abilities[edit]

Chondria Abilities[edit]

Alex whilst controlling a subject.

Alex is a Puppeteer and displays abilities associated with this Chondria. While powerful, Alex can only maintain control over a mind for 8 seconds.

To puppeteer a creature, he shoots a string of sticky poluk at the target's head, and his eyes glow green. If a connection is successfully created, the subject's eyes will also turn green. During this time, Alex can actively control all movements of the subject from afar. He is also shown to be able to utilize tools such as a slingshot to project his poluk further.[5]

Limits[edit]

His abilities are limited, and he struggles to take control of certain creatures.

He is unable to control of all Oth infected creatures, such as a corrupted Fouval[6]. It is heavily implied that the Oth eats at the poluk beam before it can reach the subject, meaning he cannot establish a connection to control them.

Additionally, to control a creature the density of the poluk must be the same as the users.[7] For example, He is also unable to control the Vultrag, as the poluk density does not align with his own.

Relationships[edit]

Anne[edit]

Alex is seemingly ignorant to Anne's existence at the beginning of the story, despite both being at Laire. They later prove to be able to work together quite well[8], but Alex still often forgets her (though this may very well be due to Anne's Koo nature).

Fai[edit]

Fai often scolds Alex whenever he is being insensitive towards others.[2] They bicker like siblings sometimes, but it is all in good fun. They have a very close bond, helping each other when the time comes. Fai trusts Alex enough to keep details of her visions secret, and discuss together what actions she should take.[9]

Phillip[edit]

Alex befriended Phillip during their time at Laire Institute, and were likely to have been close friends. Alex trusted Phillip enough to keep the fact of his experiments secret from their classmates, something he was very embarrassed about.[10] However, when Phillip revealed his true form, Alex showed immediate disgust and disapproval. He felt as if Phillip had tricked him into believing he was normal, and thought that if Phillip's form was revealed to the authorities of the school, Alex wouldn't need to be tested on.[11] Despite all of this, he actively tries to keeps Phillip's true form hidden from their classmates, often hiding Phillip (though, quite brashly) when his human persona is accidentally let down.[2] This event ultimately caused the two to stop being friends, and for Alex to start bullying Phillip instead, although he is somewhat reserved in that manner compared to his classmates, seeing as he doesn't initiate the bullying, and didn't come up with the nickname Piranha.[11][12] Despite their rough past, Alex still deeply cares for Phillip, and vice versa. In one instance when Phillip has doubts about his identity truly being human, Alex attempts to comfort him by stating that no matter what he'll always be on Team MITs, on the human side. Displaying that even though Alex feels Phillip is weird, he believes that Phillip is not an outcast.[13] As the story progresses, their relationship slowly heals, and Alex eventually stops calling Phillip "Piranha," but rather "Freckles."

Susi[edit]

Alex and Susi originally butted heads, as Susi thought Alex was a bully. They have not interacted since the Mits fell through the portal.
